How do i use my NEW aux audio cable?

I want to play my Ipod threw my home theater system. I already connect my AUX cable to the headphone Jack and the AUX port on the home theater system. is there any certain way do to this? because it is not working for me I just bought this Brand new! I Originally got this for my car i have a AUX jack so i can listen to the ipod threw my car stero

it might not work you cant use the same cable you connect your ipod to in your car you have to have "aux in/out cable" not the plain "aux" cable.
